Back on the sofa with Phillip and Holly on This Morning

Being slightly weary after a grilling from Phillip and Holly about the non-existent barbecue summer, I thought I would post the clip rather than write about it.


I have to say, they were pretty well-prepared before  hauling me over the coals over the non-stop rain that I sort of said would be over by now.


They had "that" clip lined up - the one that is going to follow me throughout my reporting career.


And faced with the evidence, there was nothing I could do but hold my hands up and admit I might have been a little over-optimistic with that glorious summer prediction in May.


But that's the nature of long-range weather reporting, you don't always get it 100 per cent.

However, If I say so myself, I think I stood my ground, despite the fierce criticism.



Still, fingers crossed for the summer, there's still July and August to go.

And if in doubt - blame it on the jet stream.

On a serious note, as always it was a fun morning, and lovely to work with the This Morning team again. So once again, many thanks for making my day so enjoyable!

    I think that the truth of the matter is that a "weather story" is a good space filler. The DE has lost all credibility from a serious journalistic perspective and is just a cash generator for Richard Desmond. It really does not matter whether the forecasts (probably no more mere speculation for the most part)are accurate or not. A front page weather splash (no pun intended) is just a cheap option.

I t was Oscar Wilde who wrote “the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about”. I have nothing more to add other than to share the following, posted on Tabloid Watch - the website which purports to blog about “bad journalism”. Jedward spotted in the city, but what were they up to?

I know that hair, I thought to myself as I passed London’s Monument on the way home from work. Those ridiculously elongated, spiky locks, wacky costumes and irritating voices were an immediate giveaway. And of course it only took me a second to recognise Jedward – the X-Factor twins whose ludicrous image and inability to hold a note have propelled them to (semi) fame. I have nothing against them, I am only being mean, and credit where it’s due, they are fiercely determined, and have built up a pretty unique act for themselves. So well done brothers Grimes. But it has to be said, the act is based around being cringe-worthingly bad at everything they try. They only made it through on the X-Factor because Simon Cowell was won over by their determination and self-belief – and let’s face it, that is really all it takes. Jimmy Savile - Stranger Danger

I have avoided commenting about Jimmy Savile for a number of reasons. We are all aware the entertainer is emerging as one of Britain’s most prolific and depraved pedophiles. He considered himself above his audience, his peers and most worryingly the law, preying on hundreds of children over 50 years - young girls, boys, and disabled youngsters. There are rumours he was involved in even more disturbing acts.  He has, most recently, been linked to the killing spree carried out by Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe, the pair were apparently mates after Savile visited him in Broadmoor high security hospital. Sutcliffe has since come out and said the claims against Savile are “rubbish” - a more glowing endorsement you couldn’t wish for. I have consciously given the subject one a wide berth until now.
