Jedward spotted in the city, but what were they up to?
I know that hair, I thought to myself as I passed London’s Monument on the way home from work.
Those ridiculously elongated, spiky locks, wacky costumes and irritating voices were an immediate giveaway.
And of course it only took me a second to recognise Jedward – the X-Factor twins whose ludicrous image and inability to hold a note have propelled them to (semi) fame.
I have nothing against them, I am only being mean, and credit where it’s due, they are fiercely determined, and have built up a pretty unique act for themselves.
So well done brothers Grimes.
But it has to be said, the act is based around being cringe-worthingly bad at everything they try.
They only made it through on the X-Factor because Simon Cowell was won over by their determination and self-belief – and let’s face it, that is really all it takes.
At one point during the sing off with another band, they barged their way to the front and took over, throwing the other (better) act into the shadows and grabbing the limelight.
It’s a tried and tested method, and to be fair they are still here while the others literally disappear.
Their clunky and fearless attempts to claw their way to the top have so far been doing just that – so all credit to them
They even managed to divert my course home, after spotting them I meandered over to have a bit of a snoop.
The infamous Irish twins, who are becoming known for their ear-bleedingly dire attempts to score gold at the Eurovision song contest, were with a film crew and a gaggle of young people.
I imagine they were filming a pop video or something like that, so after turning paparazzi and grabbing a couple of pics I continued on my way home.
I did think though, that hair!? It seems to be growing bigger and sharper by the day.
It used to be sort of pulled up into two slightly over-gelled upright quiffs, but yesterday the twins could have been contenders in a competition to out-shard the Shard.
But, as I said, good luck to them, and I look forward to finding out what they were up to in the city.
They are filming their childrens TV show, Jedwards big adventure, after having spent a few days in Milan as guests of DSquared2 and Roberto Cavalli
ReplyDeleteThey are actually pretty good at a lot of the things they do ..which is why they have a worldwide fanbase

Thanks for sharing your experience it's always nice to read about people meeting Jedward, even if this time it wasn't complimentary! I'd just like to counter a few points though? John and Edward are actually filming a second series of their CBBC programme Jedwards Big Adventure. They've also had 3 number one albums in Ireland and many hits across Europe. These examples demonstrate that they are not without talent or appeal. Recently, they were at Milan Fashion Week as invited guests of DSquared2 and Roberto Caviella where they also did photoshoots and featured in Vogue. For an example of vocal ability check out the acoustic version of Hall of Fame of Youtube - you might be surprised!
ReplyDeleteawhhh, I love them!! They've got fans all around the world, they deserve every single good thing that has happened to them xx
ReplyDeleteCheck out John´s Boyfroend cover on youtube + give Luminous / Young Love(their last 2 new songs) a listen before you judge them only because of the past. They have improved much since x-factor days. And they are in London because they film for their own children TV show Jedward Big Adventure(second serie)
ReplyDeleteahhhh, I didn't like them before but after hearing their new album YOUNG LOVE I am their biggest fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteJohn and Edward were filming the second series of their popular CBBC show Jedward's Big Adventure.
ReplyDeleteIt's curious that in the UK, most people's opinion of the Grimes brothers is mainly based on their appearance on X Factor in 2009, half-remembered accounts of the manufactured drama from the show. That was over three years ago and back then the lads were inexperienced 17-year-olds.
They're now approaching their 21st birthday. The drive and determination that Simon Cowell spotted has served them well. They haven't stopped working since they left the X Factor and - like their peers who've similarly spent three years at university or in an apprenticeship - they've hugely improved. They can sing (and in tune)! They can dance! They can entertain a packed stadium!
In the rest of the world, Jedward are just thought of as successful pop stars. It's only in the UK that people are still mumbling about the X Factor and accusing them of being talentless wannabes, ignoring everything they've achieved since. But the UK is where they get all the good, high-paid telly jobs, giving them the freedom to pursue their pop career in other countries. It's funny how things have a way of working out.
I like the comments but I also think the blogger was interesting in his views, some lovely positive parts in there
ReplyDeleteNathan! Not the best researched piece of journalism! Even just consulting @planetjedward on twitter would have told you what they were doing...
ReplyDeleteI am with all the comments above, and I'd like to add, they've had a haircut recently - so not bigger nor sharper.
Oh - and I was at the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku this year - and their contribution was neither ear-bleeding nor dire - unlike some other acts - Jedward were absolutely amazing, and gave me a memory I will treasure the rest of my life :)
Filming a second CBBC series, that's what the multi-millionaires are up to. After a weekend at Milan Fashion Week including a photoshoot
ReplyDeleteJedward are amazing. I would have freaked out if I'd spotted them.
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't listened to any of their new songs, or watched any of their new videos, then your opinion is invalid. And biased.
ReplyDeleteI'm assuming you haven't heard Jedward's new cd, it's amazing. They have Irish accents not 'irritating voices' unless you're saying all Irish accents are irritating? They 100% deserve all their fame. You shouldn't go hating on two young Irish boys, you're probably just jelous of them. You should be jelous of them.
ReplyDeleteGood Grief XFactor was three years ago! when they appeared they were just 17 and never held a microphone before. Do you people ever update your information? If you did you would know they now have ample experience, touring solidly, as well as Two double platuim albums and their vocals have fully developed, they are now seasoned, professional and if I might add, extremely good performers.
ReplyDeleteHaving just returned from their debut at Milan Fashion week, they are currently in London recording one of the three TV shows they present, Jedward's Big Adventure, for CBBC, which was recommissioned for a second series, along with their RTE show OMG Jedwards dream factory, they also have a series on C5
You really should have a listen to their third album Young Love, and see how much they have developed, its a fabulous album, look out for the song Luminous, its going to their next single
Funny that some people still live back in 2009. You would expect a journalist to do a bit of research first instead of spouting of from their memory of Xfactor 2009. Jedward have gone on to achieve a huge amount of success over the past 3 years. Xfactor was just the beginning, their training ground. Should we all judge your career based on you as a 17 year old? No, nobody would.
ReplyDeleteYou just couldnt make this stuff up. Can I just point out that these two talentless twits have not discovered anything, invented anything, come from a country thats bankrupt and previously entered a turkey puppet in Eurovision! Tonight I am writing this in Dublin so feel able to say good on them for becoming millionaires on the back of the equally vacant people who think that the world needs Jedward more than it needs people with real ideas to deal with the apalling atrocities happening across the globe right now. And finally, Young Love will never make any serious album chart EVER!!! Their Channel less than zero show will get cancelled when this years Big Brother throws up another laughable imbecile and as for doing a photoshoot in Milan, please spare me! And thats how Sue C's it!
ReplyDeleteit is funny how Jedward disliker/hater can only use bad language or insulting words , nevertheless they have earned more money in their live than you ever will.
Delete'you couldn't make this stuff up'. Right back at you. It's Jedward, not mother Teresa we're taking about. They're not here to save the world, they're talented entertainers and do it very well. Get a grip, you and your apalling atrocities. Ridiculous. And what has the state of Irelands finances got to do with anything.
DeleteSue needs new glasses. Or maybe needs her eyes tested.
DeleteThis show is for CBBC? As in, the Children's BBC...and it's for their second series...the first of which the BBC was so impressed with, it has now shown several times on BBC1. Sue...please...it's 2012, nearly 2013 - not 2009...and they weren't so bad back then either.
Deletethanks for all the pics and opinion. but they have improved and achieved a lot. you need to do a deep research about them coz your comments were very dated, you just slightly touched it with Eurovision comment to make it sound brand new. Peace out!
ReplyDeleteIt really makes me sad to see over and over again that John and Edward are still judged in the UK by their appearance in the X Factor which, for heavens sake, was three years ago. They're nearly 21 now and have worked incredibly hard to get where they are today -we know how the music industry is but on top of that they've had to put up with everyone except their fans constantly insulting them. You are by no means required to like them but you could at least show some respect.
ReplyDeleteMoreover, you said "the act is based around being cringe-worthingly bad at everything they try". I suspect you've never been to any of their concerts? Heard them sing? Watched any of their tv shows? Talked to them? John and Edward are incredibly talented, creative and kind two young men and if everyone just opened their eyes, they'd see that, too.
As the expression goes, 'first impressions last'. This is a prime example of this. Jedward's career should not be judged on their xfactor 2009 debut, but sadly that's how some choose to do so.
ReplyDeleteI love Jedward
