Portobello Road's multicoloured buildings

Apologies for the lack of content this week.

I have been working busily on a project which has left me with very little time.

However, on my travels I passed this quaint block of flats in Portobello Road, London.

I had seen them before in a magazine article about unusually decorated buildings.



Up close they are quite impressive, and blend in very well with the ambiance of the area - Portobello road is a buzzing mix of weird, eccentric, modern and old.

So, as I gather myself together, I thought I would share a couple of pictures to keep things ticking over.

I t was Oscar Wilde who wrote “the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about”. I have nothing more to add other than to share the following, posted on Tabloid Watch - the website which purports to blog about “bad journalism”. Is it racist to mark St George's day?- Ricky Gervais thinks some may think so

I don’t like Ricky Gervais. I’ve never found him funny, he comes across as self-absorbed, arrogant and sporting a hugely over-inflated opinion of himself. I didn’t get all the fuss people made of that dance thing he did on the Office, and his infamous “two mongs don’t make a right” comments on twitter which seemingly ridiculed disabled people were at the very least, in poor taste. This morning, however, when he raised another issue  close to the bone, I found myself  thinking  he may have a point. On Twitter, he broached the super-sensitive issue of racism speaking about today being St George’s Day, a celebration of all things, well, English. He wrote: “Happy St George’s Day (That’s the day that English people don’t celebrate in case someone thinks they’re racist).” I found myself thinking  “that’s brave of him”, and " that’s an interesting topic, I’m going to blog about it". Jedward spotted in the city, but what were they up to?

I know that hair, I thought to myself as I passed London’s Monument on the way home from work. Those ridiculously elongated, spiky locks, wacky costumes and irritating voices were an immediate giveaway. And of course it only took me a second to recognise Jedward – the X-Factor twins whose ludicrous image and inability to hold a note have propelled them to (semi) fame. I have nothing against them, I am only being mean, and credit where it’s due, they are fiercely determined, and have built up a pretty unique act for themselves. So well done brothers Grimes. But it has to be said, the act is based around being cringe-worthingly bad at everything they try. They only made it through on the X-Factor because Simon Cowell was won over by their determination and self-belief – and let’s face it, that is really all it takes.
