Summer is here at last - and so is the hayfever

It would be remiss of me not to do do a weather blog now the summer has finally arrived.

At long last we have some semblance of  good weather, and this week it is going to be a scorcher.

Even Kate Thornton (standing in for Phillip and Holly on This Morning) had to agree with my front page at the end of last week.

“It’s not just Nathan at the Express saying it,” she took care to point out – and it isn’t, finally everyone is agreed - summer is about to charge in.

It is looking very good this week if you enjoy the heat, although only in the South.

If you don’t like the heat, time to emigrate, as temperatures are set to rocket into the 80s, even hitting the 90s in some parts.

The only downside is this rotten hayfever which is making my life a misery at the moment.

I have to say I am suffering this year worse than I think I have ever before, even three hefty doses of one-a-day antihistamines are not even touching the sides.

And it is not just the runny nose, sore throat and streaming, burning eyes. It is actually making me feel ill this year, like having a permanent cold or something.

Having done a little research, I have discovered this is due to the high rainfall early in the season which spurred on the growth of grass and weeds which stores large amounts of pollen.

The pollen count recently has soared to twice the levels seen over the past two years.

I have even been waking up in the night streaming and reaching for the eye drops – thoroughly miserable.

If anyone has any tips – drug related or otherwise – to solve this torture, I would be more than grateful.

Anyway, back to the good news, the summer – it is here in all its glory and is likely to last all of two days.

That’s right, after Thursday it will start to fizzle out, and by next week we are back to grey skies and gloom.

Forecasters are still divided over whether the Olympic opening ceremony on Friday will be a washout or not.

Personally I don’t mind, I am holding out to winter when I can finally put away the Kleenex.
