Crap Service of the Week Award - congratulations Transport for London...again

Crap Service of the Week Award is rapidly in danger of becoming “Crap Service from TfL again ... of the Week Award”.

A bit like one of those Harry Hill sketches – Most Ridiculous Highlight of the Week, or some other such hilarity.

With Transport for London faithfully delivering material for me to slag off on a daily basis, I will never be lost for ideas.

So what have they failed to do this week?

Well, I am not going to go on about the week-long string of delays and cancellations which left numerous lines in mayhem just 49 days until the Olympics.

Nor am I going to criticise them for virtually shutting down the Central Line for two days because of a water leak – Ok, Thames Water has to take some of the blame for that.

No, this week I am going to remind them there is still no working downward escalator at Bank DLR Station (London).

This is despite  a poster on the defunct conveyer promising work will be completed by May 2012 (that was two weeks ago TfL).

It would not be so frustrating were it not splattered with useless bits of trivia about who the first person to ride an escalator was, and how many steps there are at Angel.

Nor would it be so infuriating if there was a team of dedicated engineers tirelessly working to get it back up and running in time for one of the busiest periods in London’s history.

But nope, no sign of an engineer  for weeks, they are clearly not that worried about the extra 10 million people that will need to use it in a few weeks.

And it was not just at Bank Station that escalator trouble was leading to a serious passenger backlog.

At Euston Station this week a notice greeted hundreds of people clamouring to get onto the platform that due to "a fault" there was no down escalator service.

Really good show TfL – a sterling effort, you are doing the country proud.

Just a quick reminder then guys- the Olympics start in 49 days.  I imagine getting central London’s Stations working soon might be a good idea...soonish.

Just saying.

In the mean time, and with great pleasure, I bestow upon you, Transport for London, TFL, today’s Crap Service of the Week Award.
