This Morning and the weather
Ok I can’t resist.
I tried but it has proved impossible, I am going to write a blog about today being my debut appearance on ITV This Morning.
I say debut because after the make up, the lights, the chuaffeur-driven car to the ITV studios and mingling with the celebs in the green room I have decided I could get a liking for this.
Fingers crossed.
Fingers crossed.
They asked me to go on after trawling through a selection of Daily Express front pages dealing with weather, the majority of which were written by me.
Apparently Philip and Holly love our coverage of all things meteorological, and why not? As I said on the show, there is nothing Brits like talking about more than the weather.
Their researcher Paul, admitted they regularly have a bit of fun at my expense during the morning paper reviews, but isn’t that what we are here for, to entertain?
I was happy to talk about some of our “more outlandish” headlines - “A month of rain” I think was one they threw at me, “Snow to last for weeks” - or something like that.
I explained I speak to experts from various organisations, including the Met Office, before coming up with the day’s story.
Joking aside, the reason we run so many weather front pages is of course because they are incredibly well-written...ahem... and furthermore, people really do love talking about the weather.
Like it or not, they do, and we are best placed for coverage in the UK with the barmiest weather around.
Where else an you get a monsoon in the morning and a heat wave in the afternoon. Snow in May and record high scorching temperatures in October.
And the weather is so relevant to our everyday lives in a way it is isn’t in other countries.
In Canada they get feet of snow and ice storms but manage to get on with life. We all know a few flakes of snow in the winter in London causes the railway networks to grind to a halt.
Minor earthquakes and typhoons barely give the Japanese cause to bat an eyelid as their trains and buses carry on faithfully through rain and shine.
The wrong type of wind, or autumn leaves falling in the UK cause airports to grind to a halt and hours of train delays for frustrated commuters.
Whether or not the weather warrants such constant attention is not up to me to decide, but the fact remains people want to know bout it, and I love to write about it.
In other non-weather related news, here are some sneaky snaps I took from the This Morning Green Room.
