Flowers for Valentine's Day? You're better off hitting the gym

It’s that time of year again.
When birds start feathering their nests and bees buzz joyfully looking for love.
And almost time for men around the country to rummage through flower sections at the local garage because they forgot to but a present for their true love.
Yes, its Valentine’s Day - the day Cupid loads his arrow and fires it at loving couples around the world.
But it is not a joyous occasion if, like me, you are useless at buying presents and resent spending money on cards that will end up in the bin.
And all the best restaurants will probably be booked up if you decide a romantic a candle-lit dinner will fit the bill.
But don’t despair, there is a better way to set hearts fluttering during this, the most love-charged time of the year.
Apparently spending the evening with your other half down the gym is the way to go.
Research seems to suggest couples who work out together have happier relationships.
More and more are following in the footsteps of singer Gwen Steffani and husband Gavin Rossendale, by shunning expensive meals in restaurants in favour of working out together.
Couples who work up a sweat rather than work up a restaurant bill apparently argue just once a month compared to once a week for those who don’t.
And calorie-laden meals are a romantic date  passion killer.

Women actually feel guilty after dining out, and find expensive restaurants uncomfortable and intimidating.

Food for thought? I should say.
But for anyone thinking of canceling the restaurant booking for tomorrow night in favour of a eight laps round the track, or body pump, bear something in mind.
Competitive sports like tennis or badminton lead to arguments.

Stick to running, or a joint activity to inject that little bit of magic into your relationship.
According to personal trainer Kevin Wiltshire it is all down to the endorphins released during exercise.
Your brain associates being happy with being with your partner.
So, to win your sweetheart’s affections  tonight, ditch the chocolate and jewellery and head down to the gym- happy Valentine’s Day.
